Earlier this year, state Rep. Jim Viebrock, R-Republican, introduced a bill designed to circumvent federal rules that prevent horse slaughter for human consumption and would enable horse processing facilities to open in Missouri. Viebrock thinks the legislation would jump-start the ailing equine industry by slaughtering old horses, which pro-slaughter advocates say has been hurt by the recent closure of the country’s three horse slaughterhouses.

Apparently Rep Jim Viebrock should seriously look into the truth.. and not be fooled by supporting a bunch of irresponsible Over Breeders that may be losing sales including the few Auctioneers that allow killers. This is a situation not about old horses it is a situation that allows Over Breeders a continuous way to make profits.. Either on the high in or low in which is our downing economy. These pro horse people are only trying to cash in and using the economy as there Excuse.. You cant talk about any business in America that is NOT hurting, suffering or closing.. What makes these irresponsible any different.. According to the USDA (FOIA) Freedom of Information Acts clearly show what slaughter supported. The majority wasnt old horses. and the health and condition of horses arriving were NOT humane with eye punctures and deep cut wounds with NO Vet care.. Not to mention Texas plants Operated against Texas laws secretly for years. As of Now Italys own Parliment is now taking steps to abolish any horsemeat consume there. Not to mention that the EU has inforced a 90 Quaranteen on any horse going to slaughter. You can bet these pro horse people wont care about drugs in horses as they do with the health care they have in place now.. NOTHING.. Horses should be removed from the Livestock catagory to companion pet. Then these irresponsible people lose the tax breaks they get on overbreeding. To date None of these people including the AVMA or the AAEP donate or support any horse rescues in the US or Canada.. There history for these people speak clearly..
Jim Viebrock has listed in his official bio that his father is a veterinarian, which means, he saw him taking care of sick animals. Why now, supporting a bill that kills the sick animal? His website is full of statements about respect toward life. So, the logic of his law is that we should ” help” the sick, unwanted, old horses die humanely and than eat them. If his father would have been a medical doctor, would rep Jim Viebrock would have come to the same conclusion? Should we get rid of the human life same way, because they are old, sick and unwanted?
I understand, also from his bio that he founded his company at age 14 and he’s loaded. Enough to get elected. Enough to be friends with the slaughter industry. But, that is all to his life? Get rid ” humanely” of life that becomes sick, old and unwanted?
We need laws to protect life in a truthfull way. If we love the land, loving horses is a God given right.
