South American Unity Summit

Representatives of 32 countries are gathering on Mexico’s Caribbean coast for the Unity Summit of Latin America and the Caribbean starting Monday.

South American Unity Summit in Mexico, where the goal is to create an alternative group to the OAS. the new group has yet to be named.

Before you start to Bash this (South American Unity Summit) party ,  its in America’s  interest to have the South American country’s  united in goals that are beneficial to each member that in turn could help in economic growth. plus they should  be able to fix their own problems with out being helped , then used when it’s convenient to America’s interest.

After all , you cant tell them to fix their problems and then have America involved in every decision in South America.

Mexico, says the Organization of American States should first decide on whether to recognize or not the new Honduran leader, who took office on January 27.

The summit is also expected to discuss the results of Mexico’s chairmanship in the RIO Group, an international body, which comprises more than 20 Latin American and Caribbean states. The bloc was created in 1986 in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.

Meanwhile, Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez, who had delayed the official confirmation of his participation in the summit, said he would attend the talks.

Hugo Chavez: I took a decision to go to Mexico and take part in the meeting of the RIO Group and the Summit of Latin America and the Caribbean, where a range of interesting issues will be considered without the U.S. and Canada,” a statement issued by the summit organizers quoted Chavez as saying.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has urged the region to create a counterweight to what he calls excessive U.S. influence.

Another question which will center the attention is the increasing tension around the illegal oil exploration by the United Kingdom in the Falkland Islands, taken by force from Argentinean sovereignty in 1833.

The Group of Rio, created in 1986, is made up by 23 countries: Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Belize, Colombia, Chile, Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Haití, México, Nicaragua, Panamá, Perú, Paraguay, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela.
